In today’s teleconference, Kyra Cavanaugh shares stories from some actual manager training sessions and talks about what scares managers most.
Plus, why it’s so important to let managers vent in a group setting.
What’s really critical for these managers is to hear that their fears and concerns are not theirs alone. These managers need an opportunity to blow off some steam—to have their peers say, “Yeah, I’m concerned about that, too.” Or to be able to say, “I don’t buy that.” [private_pro]
Kyra responds to these manager concerns:
- Fear the office will be empty because everyone will want to flex. (They think there’ll be crickets chirping in the cubes.)
- Fear of sticking your neck out. (What if the starting gun goes off and I’m the only one who runs? Is leadership really behind this?)
- Fear of negative repercussions if you have to reject an employee’s flex request.
- Understanding that approving (or denying) flex is a business decision – not a reward for good work and not because one employee “needs” it more than another
In the first 10 minutes Kyra answers member questions about losing a ‘best place to work’ award and how to communicate a new flex program to employees.
